Indian Americans Honor Seymor James

Samir Chopra, President of Indian Americans of New York recently honored Seymour W. James, Jr.,at a ceremony at the Long Island Marriot. Mr. James is President of the New York State Bar Association; where he will lead the 77,000- member organization. James currently serves as a member of Chief Judge Lippman’s Justice Task Force, the New York State Permanent Sentencing Commission, the Departmental Disciplinary Committee for the First Judicial Department, the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Second Judicial Department and the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Second Judicial Department. He also serves as the secretary of the Correctional Association.

Samir Chopra said, “Seymour is a wonderful friend of the community and extends himself for the protection of civil rights important to all Americans, he has a proven track record of service to the community and his example is motivational.”  Samir is a Recipient of President Obama’s Volunteer Service Medal. He is Trustee of the Hindu Center and a former Director of the South Asian Bar Association. Samir was awarded the Walter Upjohn Award and completed his education at Emory, INSEAD and Harvard and has completed several Marathons and triathalons. Dr. Parveen Chopra is a Board Member of the New York Civil Liberties Union and the Bhartiya Vidhya Bhuvan and served for over 25 years   as a Commissioner. He was one of the  first Indian Americans to serve in public office on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.
